Players accused of taking bribe have been given clean chit, says BCCI Secretary, Anurag Thakur: The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a clean chit to the three players who were earlier accused to take bribes. The ICC inquiry did not find anything concrete regarding the matter. The issue arose when the former IPL chief, Lalit Modi raised accusations against the three players for taking bribes during IPL and also getting involved in spot-fixing issues.

Modi tweeted on 26^th June about the letter and he also claimed to have informed the ICC about the matter. His letter included, “Three players, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina, are in close contact with real estate tycoon Baba Diwan of HDIL. Reliable sources have informed me that he has paid in cash and kind (flats) to the above three in tune of Rs 20 crore each.”

Lalit Modi also tweeted a snapshot of the letter which he had sent the ICC. He also reported that no subsequent actions were being taken for the same.

ICC assured that it was received by them two years ago and respective actions were being taken for the same with the Anti-corruption unit of the BCCI. IPL secretary, Anurag Thakur said that ICC had the responsibility to investigate upon the matter but they did not come up with any substantial proofs for the same and thus as a result of which, the accused players are given a clean chit.

Thakur also stated, “”We reviewed the emails sent by Lalit Modi. ICC had confirmed of the mail received from Modi. They shared it with BCCI as well. When someone plays international cricket, the responsibility is with ICC’s anti-corruption unit to do an inquiry on it. The follow up is there is nothing in that. If there was something, they would have informed us. If ICC has not got back to us with anything, it means the players have got a clean chit.”

Also, Thakur made it precisely clear that the investigation on the matter did not fall under the jurisdiction of the BCCI and the matter was looked upon by the ICC itself.
