But playing cricket has landed an Indian lady police officer in trouble. Sometimes, your wish to do something different during official duty may seriously land you in trouble. The case relates to Amudha Selvi, a woman inspector, who played cricket during duty hours near a police station at Ramanathapuram or simply Ramnad. According to sources, the lady inspector was tempted to see her driver’s new bat that he bought for his son, she inquired about the same and played cricket with the youth brigade members in the streets with her police station just a few yards away. It all happened when she was in uniform and on her night duty shift. Mayilvahanan, the SP of Ramanathapuram, confirmed that the driver is transferred to the Armed Reserve Police, while the investigation into lady inspector’s conduct is still underway.

Someone recorded live incident of police officials playing cricket in the street on his device, and this led the news to spread far and wide. As the video went viral, Ramanathapuram SP immediately asked for a departmental enquiry about it. Another police official on the condition of anonymity stated to the media that the matter has been blown out of proportion. It is quite normal that people may try using new bat or other sports equipment.

Ramanathapuram or Ramnad is a city in the Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu. The town is historically relevant for its ancient legends related to Ramayana. Though, the town is mostly peaceful with higher literacy rate and other civic amenities, this incident has certainly invited unnecessary media attention which the town doesn’t need otherwise.
