We’re playing on some very tough surfaces, says SRH skipper Kane Williamson

The Sunrisers Hyderabad once again produced a bowling masterclass last night against RCB at the orange army’s fortress at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. With the win, they now comfortably sit at the top of the points table with 16 points from 10 games.

SRH skipper Kane Williamson powered his side towards a narrow five-run win, on the back of their dominant bowling line up in the tournament. It was the captain himself who set up SRH’s outing with a priceless half-century on a track that was extremely challenging to score. Despite their reputation of leaking boundaries, RCB bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Tim Southee clinched three wickets each to put a lid on SRH’s scoring rate.

Chasing 147, RCB started off perfectly in the powerplays but lost their way in the middle overs, after the loss of Virat Kohli’s wicket. Even after the finishing blows from Colin de Grandhomme, RCB fell short of the target by just five runs, as Sunrisers Hyderabad almost confirm their place in the playoffs with 16 points.

Speaking at the post-match conference about the playing conditions, SRH skipper Kane Williamson opined, “We’re playing on some very tough surfaces. We were aiming for 150, and we were thereabouts. Our fielding was probably a bit sloppy. Could have operated better. At the same time, good to come away with the win. Some experienced campaigners stepping up at the right time. That last over comes to mind. Bhuvi was world class. They’ve both done it (Bhuvi and Kaul) extremely well for a long time,” said Williamson.”

Bhuvaneshwar’s last over heroics sealed the match for SRH

Williamson’s side came back at the death yet again due to the spirited bowling combo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddharth Kaul who kept nailing the blockhole. The skipper also did not miss the chance to laud Bhuvi for his incredible spell.

With 12 needed off the last over, the 28-year-old showed great character and strong nerves to defend it, giving away just 6 runs in the process. Kumar also scalped the wicket of De Grandhomme on the very last ball of the match, putting a lid to all RCB hopes of a heroic finish.
