Former Windies captain Darren Sammy has expressed his pleasure having led the St. Lucia Zouks and Stars in Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He was also confident about finishing the competition on a high despite racking up 6 consecutive losses so far.

He revealed the news of his sacking as the skipper on Instagram account today and also thanked everyone for their support. Sammy, West Indies‘ most successful T20 captain also encouraged his teammates to do well and revive their campaign in the ongoing edition.

“I will always stand up for my team win or lose. The good leader take more than his share of the blame and less than his share of the credit. It was a pleasure leading you St Lucia Zouks and Stars.. Massive thank u to all the players, staff, fans and supporters especially my sweet st lucia. #Sacked #ShriwiwiwiToThat now let’s finish on a high..” He wrote in his Instagram post.

St. Lucia team management thank Sammy

Sammy has always been a team man and he once again showed it with his post. The St. Lucia team management also did not miss the opportunity to thank him for his contribution as the leader of the pack in a statement.

“The Stars management would like to take this opportunity to thank Darren Sammy for his contribution as captain this season and throughout the last four editions of Hero CPL,” the statement read.

The 33-year-old will now play under the leadership of Shane Watson for the remainder of the season. The team had qualified for the playoffs last season under Sammy’s captaincy and it was the first time they did so in four seasons since 2013.

St. Lucia are yet to play 4 games this season and they would like to finish off on a high to come back stronger in the next season.
