Prague CC – The weird feeling of ignominy, 9 batsmen get out for ducks: Prague Cricket Club 2nd XI created history late last month, playing in the Czech Cricket Pro40 league against Bohemian CC. Any team would be proud to enter the record books on a positive note. Unfortunately for Prague CC, it was humiliation that made the news. Nine of their batsmen departed without troubling the scorers as they huffed and puffed to a paltry score of 54 while chasing 126 for victory, much to the glee of the opposition.

Aditya Jaiswal was the lone survivor in the battlefield, scoring an unbeaten 43 of 49 balls after coming in to replace Sourmen Gosh at No.3. Extras (6 Leg-byes, 2 Byes and 2 Wides) were the second best contributor to the score.

For team whose starting 11 consisted more than 90% of players of Indian-origin, the cricket played was elementary. Cricket in the Czech Republic, an affiliate member of the ICC, made headlines for the wrong reasons.

This peculiar scorecard is not the first of its kind. Last year, on the west coast of Mumbai in the prestigious Lord Harris Shield Tournament, a high school team (Rajhans Vidyalaya) witnessed 9 of its players do a Shahid Afridi, getting bowled for a mere total of 4 runs in the process.

Ducks are quite common in the game of cricket, but such instances where the whole team gets marauded by the opposition are rare and thus draw attention and are amusing for mainstream cricket fans.
