India is up against Leicestershire in a practice match at Grace Road in Leicester, ahead of the rescheduled fifth Test match against England. The practice game features some star Indian players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer. Interestingly, four of the Indian players are representing Leicestershire in order to get more game time.

Prasidh, playing for the hosts, was in a discussion with his opponent Kohli along with Iyer, and Kohli appeared to give the Leicestershire pacer some tips before the latter was about to bowl to Iyer. And what followed was Iyer poking one at a delivery that was slightly wide of off-stump to guide the ball to the wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant. The Indian batter had to walk back without troubling the scorers.

Srikar Bharat takes India past 240

India, after batting first, failed to make any significant contribution from the top as none of the batters, barring Srikar Bharat, went past a score of 35 runs. Bharat remained unbeaten at 70, and Kohli was the second-highest scorer with 33. India declared after scoring 246 for the loss of eight wickets in 60.2 overs.

The Leicestershire bowling was spearheaded by right-arm fast bowler Roman Walker, picking up five wickets in his 11 overs, including the key wickets of Rohit, Hanuma Vihari, Kohli, and Jadeja. Bumrah went wicketless in his nine overs, conceding 34 runs.

Leicestershire got off to a slow start, as pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj scalped the top four, sharing two wickets each within the 18 overs. Skipper Sam Evans was dismissed for 1 by Shami, and Cheteshwar Pujara, at number three, was out for a six-ball duck. Number one batter Louis Kimber departed after scoring a valuable 31 off 39 balls before getting caught behind off a Siraj’s delivery in the 14th over.

Leicestershire, at the conclusion of the 26th over, scored 101 for the loss of four wickets. Pacer Umesh Yadav bowled eight overs and conceded 24 runs, and Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja bowled five overs and one over respectively, without getting any wickets. Pant and Rishi Patel are currently at the crease and have added 30 runs for the fifth wicket.
