The coronation of the head coach for the Indian cricket team is nearing its date as the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is set to interview Pravin Amre and Lalchand Rajput for the position later today. The interview will be conducted by CAC members Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman. Sanjay Jagdale will coordinate the interviews for both candidates as they are all set to meet in a high profile hotel in Kolkata.

Reports suggest that the nominees for a coach will have to make a 30 to 45-minute presentation on their plans for the Indian team in the future. The two candidates for the day, Pravin Amre and Lalchand Rajput are some of the best cricket coaches in the country at the domestic level at the moment. While both men have played for the Indian cricket team at some point in their playing careers, both men have also been involved in coaching the Indian team in one respect or another.

Rajput was a part of the Indian coaching staff when they clinched the inaugural World T20 in South Africa in 2007. Rajput’s interim position was filled in on a full-time basis by South Africa Gary Kirsten who led the Indian side to glory in 2011. Rajput however, was made the coach of the India ‘A’ team who did marginally well before he was eventually replaced with Rahul Dravid.

Pravin Amre, on the other hand, is known to be a well-respected coach and has worked with many players including the likes of Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, and Ajinkya Rahane. Amre played 11 Tests and 37 ODIs in the early 90s, coached the Mumbai team to three Ranji titles. Amre has also worked with the likes of Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik in the past as well as being heavily involved with the Mumbai Indians.

With 57 applicants vying for the coveted and high-profile role, the list was trimmed down to 21 names. Further reports suggest that Sandeep Patil, Venkatesh Prasad, Robin Singh and Balwinder Singh Sandhu have not been invited. At the time of the appointment of the new coach, he will be permitted to join up with the Indian side who will be in a preparatory camp for the West Indies series. The camp is likely to be held in Bangalore.
