Young South African speedster Lungi Ngidi is certainly looking like a bright prospect for the South African side. After a memorable debut at Centurion, the young pacer managed to trouble Indian captain Virat Kohli in the Johannesburg Test as well. Among all the bowlers who bowled to Kohli on the first day of the Test, it was Ngidi who looked to be the most lethal one.
Kohli was found wanting for options against Lungi Ngidi. Eventually, the youngster had the last laugh as he managed to dismiss Virat Kohli on 54. It is worth noting that Kohli was looking incredibly set at the crease and promised of a big knock with his gutsy show. However, Ngidi’s persistent questioning of the outside the off channel had Kohli giving in eventually.
The delight on the South African faces summed up the dismissal pretty well. The action perspired in the second session of play on the day one of the match. Ngidi came in running to bowl to Kohli in the 43rd over of the ball. He bowled a fullish delivery on the off side channel. Kohli was forced to poke into it as he leant in to the shot. The Indian skipper wanted to drive the ball but only ended up getting a thick outside edge.
The ball flew to the slip fielder, AB de Villiers, who had earlier dropped Kohli in the match. This time around, AB de Villiers held on to the catch with the reverse cup to see the Indian captain heading backt to the pavilion. Kohli was dejected and Lungi Ngidi was all smiles.
In the stands, his proud parents were also seen all smiles as they cheered for their son. It was indeed a memorable moment for the young cricketer. Interestingly, this is not the first time he has dismissed Kohli. Even in the second innings of the Centurion Test, a sharp inswinger from Lungi Ngidi had dismissed Virat Kohli. After the game, Ngidi had conceded that the wicket of Virat Kohli is indeed a very special and memorable one for him.
