The final of ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to be played on Sunday between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi. While the latter side would be looking to defend the title, Islamabad would be eyeing to win it for the second after triumphing in the inaugural edition. The National Stadium in Karachi will host the historic final as PCB continues to revive international cricket in the country. However, Zalmi has been jolted with their key player now being ruled out due to injury.
Peshawar Zalmi has the momentum with them going into the title clash as they have beaten the likes of Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings who were tipped as favourites. Though Darren Sammy has led the team exceedingly well and have brought them to this stage from where they can actually think of defending their PSL title.
Who is the player?
The swashbuckling opener Tamim Iqbal is set to miss the final of the tournament due to his troublesome injury. He travelled to Bangkok on Thursday. But his availability for the crucial game was not clear. According to leading Bangladesh Daily Prothom Alo, the left-hander has cleared that his participation in the final depended on the outcome of his meeting with the physician in Bangkok.
“I had pain in the Nidahas Trophy and so could not field in the final. I also could not field in the match at PSL,” Tamim himself informed on Friday. Also according to Cricbuzz, he will return home on March 25 on the day of the final and then discuss his next course of action with Bangladesh Cricket Board. He will have to undergo rehabilitation as the knee injury seems serious.
Tamim had played in the first eliminator against Quetta Gladiators but missed the next game as he felt the strain once again ahead of the next game. Eventually and unfortunately for Zalmi he will miss the final now and they will have to play without him.
