PSL 2019: Darren Sammy retained as Peshawar Zalmi skipper

Players draft is currently in progress for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). While the teams are busy building their sides by including some of the top players, Peshawar Zalmi have made a major announcement. The owner of the franchise, Javed Afridi, has confirmed that the Windies cricketer Darren Sammy will continue to lead the team in the next season as well.

He will be at the helm for the third consecutive edition now after being appointed as the skipper in 2017. He is also one of the most popular player of the league having played in Pakistan as well on the two previous occasions. Also, it comes as a no surprise that he will be leading the team once again as he led them to the final in the last two seasons, winning once.

The Zalmi lost to Islamabad United earlier this year in a thrilling final and failed to defend the title by a whisker. However, Sammy would be keen on carrying his record for the upcoming season as well. According to the Geo News reporter, Faizan Lakhani, Javed Afridi confirmed the news of retaining Sammy as the leader of the pack.

Peshawar Zalmi retained eight players ahead of the players draft which included Sammy as well and have now snaffled some of the interesting cricketers during the event. Misbah-ul-Haq, who parted ways with Islamabad United, will now play for them as the franchise secured his services from the Gold category. They also went on to pick the likes of Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan and Kieron Pollard who are few of the best players in the shortest format.

The franchise have also gone with some of the local players which shows they’ve once again managed to build a strong side which has the ability to go all the way in the 2019 edition. It will be interesting to see if Sammy will be able to keep his good record intact.
