The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars have decided to retain Salman Butt for the upcoming season. The left-hander himself revealed the news and is pretty excited to perform in front of the fans with the PSL set to be played in Pakistan next year. Butt is eager to return to international cricket ever since he has served the five-year ban imposed on him for his role in the spot-fixing.

The former Pakistan captain has been consistently performing in the domestic circuit only to be overlooked by the national selectors. As far as his performance in the PSL earlier this year is concerned, Butt got a chance to play only a couple of games for the Qalandars. He scored only 22 runs in the two appearances and is hoping to get more opportunities to showcase his skills next season.

“I am a Lahorite and I want to see Lahore Qalandars this time play their best cricket and emerge triumphant. I am eager to play a key role in helping the Qalandars register crucial victories and ultimately win the PSL-5 trophy,” Butt said while speaking to The Nation.

It was really big news for me

Salman Butt was featuring on a live television program when he got a call from the Lahore based franchise and told him about his retention. He is ecstatic since then and is eager to take the field for his team. “It was really big news for me as I had been waiting since long to play cricket in front my fans and impress them with my performances,” Butt added.

When asked about not getting for Pakistan, Salman Butt explained that his job is to keep performing in the domestic circuit which he’s been doing for a fair amount of time now. “I have been playing cricket continuously and [I am] in good form. My domestic track record clearly indicates my fitness and performances. My job is to perform, which I have been successfully doing, while [the] rest is on the PCB and selectors [on] what they decide about me,” he concluded.
