Multan Sultans registered their 3rd win in four matches as they thumped Karachi Kings by 53 runs in Rawalpindi. Moeen Ali and skipper Shan Masood scored 65 and 63 respectively facing only 42 balls apiece. Their efforts helped Sultans finish on 186/6 despite some quite last couple of overs. Karachi Kings tried to score runs quickly to match the required rate but ended up losing wickets at regular intervals. No player even touched the 30-run mark as the Karachi were bundled out for 134 in only 17 overs.

A first for Multan against Karachi:

1 – Multan Sultans defeated Karachi Kings for the first time in the Pakistan Super League. The first-ever meeting between these two teams in 2018 ended without a result but Karachi won all the three since then. With this result, now all the six teams in the PSL history have won and lost at least one match against all the remaining five opponents.


Nearly Multan’s highest:

186/6 – The total of 186/6 by Multan Sultans in this match is now their 2nd highest total in the PSL. Their highest total in the PSL is 200/6 against Lahore Qalandars during the 2019 edition in Sharjah.


Moeen’s rare treble:

2Moeen Ali is only the 2nd player in the history of Pakistan Super League to score a fifty, pick a wicket and take a catch; all in the same match. Moeen scored 65 runs, recorded figures of 1/25 and took a catch off Cameron Delport.

Faheem Ashraf scored an unbeaten 54 and took 2/37 including a return catch during the 2018 edition match against Peshawar Zalmi for Islamabad United.


Multan’s biggest win:

52 – Multan Sultans won this match by 52 runs; the first-ever instance of them winning a PSL match by a margin of 50+ runs. Only two times Multan Sultans won a PSL match while batting first – by 43 runs against Lahore Qalandars and by 19 runs against Peshawar Zalmi; both in the 2018 edition.

This is also the 3rd biggest defeat in terms of runs for Karachi Kings in the PSL. They lost to Quetta Gladiators by 67 runs in the 2018 edition and by 61 runs against Peshawar Zalmi in 2019.


12 – Each of the previous 12 matches in the Pakistan Super League involving Multan Sultans were won by the chasing team (Before the match vs Karachi). The Multan team won five of those 12 games and lost the remaining seven.


Tahir on to top:

19 – Imran Tahir has picked up 19 wickets across 14 PSL matches for the Multan Sultans. He is now the leading wicket-taker for the Multan Sultans in the PSL surpassing Mohammad Irfan’s tally of 18 wickets including Babar Azam’s wicket in this match.
