Preview:

The two-time PSL champions Islamabad United had an interesting start of the 2020 season as they lost to the defending champions Quetta Gladiators in the tournament opener from a winning position. They didn’t take long to open their points tally as they thumped Multan Sultans on Saturday night. They registered an 8-wicket win by chasing down the target of 165 with 20 balls to spare. The Islamabad team will now face Lahore Qalandars who kick-started their campaign with a defeat against the Multan team a day before.

Weather Condition/Report:

The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is likely to be pleasant on Sunday without any forecast of rain throughout the match.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Gaddafi Stadium has witnessed pretty low-scoring matches in the T20 format recently when compared to other venues in Pakistan. The average first innings score here in the 2019-20 season reads 151 across 8 matches. The team batting first managed to win only six of those eight matches showing how the pitches ease out here as the match progresses.

Average 1st innings score: 151 (T20s in 2019-20 season)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 6, Lost – 2

Top Picks:

Dawid Malan is going through a purple patch with the bat in the T20 format. The England batsman has scored 762 runs across 18 T20s in 2019-20 at an average of 54.42 with help of 2 centuries and 5 fifties. Malan has already scored 100 runs in the two matches in the ongoing edition of the tournament. Faheem Ashraf picked up three wickets across two matches and also scored 20 runs. His numbers in the PSL with both bat and ball are quite opposite to that of his T20I career.

Chris Lynn started off the season with a quick-fire 39 against Multan Sultans. He has got starts in most of the matches during the recent BBL season but the conversion rate wasn’t a promising one. Colin Munro scored a 32-ball 50 against Multan on Saturday after bagging a golden duck in the tournament opener. This is now Munro’s 4th fifty in 13 T20s in 2020.

Expert Advice:

Lahore Qalandars are likely to field the same XI that lost to Multan Sultans. One of the reasons for that is their batting collapse and no better alternatives on the bench. Lahore does have a couple of overseas all-rounders but their inclusion could cost the stability of the batting line-up. Hence, we are not expecting any changes to their previous match XI.

Probable Winners:

Islamabad United is likely to thump Lahore Qalandars comfortably on Sunday.
