The 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to be one of the biggest cricketing spectacles staged in the country. This will be the first time that the entire edition of the franchise-based league will take place in the country with a plethora of foreign cricketers like Jason Roy, Tom Banton, Shane Watson, Dale Steyn and many others set to grace the competition.

And, now it has been announced that total prize money of US $1million will be up for grabs in the fifth edition of the franchise-based league. The winner of the grand finale, which will take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will collect a cheque of US $500K along with a glittering brand new silverware while the runner-up will receive a cheque of US $200K.

Additionally, a number of other cash awards will also be up for grabs, including US $4500 each to all the 34 ‘Player of the Matches’. Furthermore, a sum of US $80,000 will be equally distributed to the ‘Player of the Tournament’, ‘best batsman’, ‘best bowler’ and ‘Spirit of Cricket’ awards.

The remaining money will be distributed for other match-related awards like the best catch, best run-out, and most sixes.

Whole PSL set to take place for the first time in Pakistan

This will be the first time since the 2008 Asia Cup that Pakistan will hold a tournament of such magnitude. Back then, Pakistan had hosted India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates in the Asia Cup, which was eventually won by Sri Lanka after they beat India by 100 runs in the final.

Prior to that, Pakistan has also co-hosted the 1987 Reliance and 1996 Wills World Cup where it played hosts to 10 and 16 matches across seven and six venues respectively.

As far as the PSL is concerned, the six-team competition will be staged across four venues with Karachi playing host to nine, Lahore 14, Rawalpindi eight and Multan three matches respectively.

The opening game of the Pakistan Super League will see defending champions Quetta Gladiators lock horns with two-time winners Islamabad United at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 20.
