Can you score 10/10?

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign in IPL 2020 was an example of how to punch over their weight and earn the required results. The franchise struggled to find a proper balance in the absence of experienced Indian batsmen except for Manish Pandey. SRH was short of speedsters while the rest of the teams were benefited by the same on helpful tracks. Regular injuries to key players brought down the confidence of the team so did the batting collapses when they were in a winning position.

Sunrisers suffered injury blows in the form of Mitchell Marsh in the first match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar in their 4th game, Vijay Shankar towards the end of league phase and Wriddhiman Saha ahead of playoffs getting ruled out of the remainder. However, with the limited resources and strengthening their bowling attack, the Sunrisers moved forward. They won each of their last three matches in league phase against DC, RCB and MI the three teams that they qualified to the playoffs.

Kane Williamson was probably at his best batting form as the New Zealander adapted to whichever role he got. Williamson in fact excelled as a finisher in quite a few matches which he never did previously. He put his best in the 2nd qualifier against the Delhi Capitals and nearly took SRH into the final. Abdul Samad showed glimpses of his talent and could be used in a better way by them in the next season. Jason Holder’s inclusion strengthened the Sunrisers bowling even further as they won four successive games.

Rashid Khan was as lethal as he was ever in any of the IPL editions. The leg-spinner claimed 20 wickets in 15 matches while conceding less than 5.5 runs an over. Sandeep Sharma delivered the required in few games but T Natarajan was the star at the death for SRH as the success in IPL 2020 got him a place in India’s squad for the Australian tour. Manish Pandey and David Warner’s batting performances were quite weird as in one game the duo produced run-feast while in another fixture, they struggle to get going.
