Ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been drawing praises from all corners due to his spectacular run in the last couple of seasons. Now, former Indian spinner Erapalli Prasanna has also showered heavy praise on the Indian offie. However, the legendary spinner has a few suggestions for Ashwin that he believes will help him turn sharper.

He spoke at length about the other spin prospects of the current Indian setup. He had his views shared on Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav. As per the quotes in the Times of India, Prasanna called R Ashwin as the best spinner in the world right now. He had recently capped off the England series with 28 wickets to his name. “There is no doubt that Ashwin is the best striker bowler we have. He is the best spinner in the world now,” he said.

He added that Ravi Ashwin can become better by adding a bit of flight to his air. He cited that flighting the ball will tempt the batsmen to step out even more. “Unless and until he makes the batsmen step out and drive it will be a little difficult for him. In the back of his mind he has got a leg break which he thinks is very effective. But watching him, the batsmen will easily know that he is going to bowl that delivery. From his action you can easily find out that he is going to bowl that one,” added the 76-year old.

The former Indian cricketer was also right in praising Jadeja. He mentioned that Jadeja was equally responsible for winning the series for India. He commended the way Jadeja has evolved as a spin bowler. “We also largely need to direct our success to Ravindra Jadeja because he kept one end tight (against England). These two have largely contributed to our series win against England. Now Jadeja has come to a stage wherein he can read the mind of batsmen and turn out to be a strike bowling match winner,” said Prasanna.

Yet another spinner who took the limelight in the recent times was Jayant Yadav. Prasanna opined that Yadav is one for the longer format. He does not believe that the Haryana bowler has it in him to become a strike bowler.

“If you really ask me Jayant Yadav, I do not think, he will be able to bowl long spells at all. He is a useful batsman for T20 or one-day matches and he can bowl good four overs in these two formats. He has already proved that in longer version of the game, he is not a strike bowler. He is not meant to be strike bowler,” said Prasanna.
