Rachael Hayhoe-Flint Trophy 2020: Lauren Bell bowls a brilliant yorker to dismiss FMK Morris

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is hosting the Rachel Hayhoe Flint Trophy, 2020 to mark the comeback of domestic cricket for the women cricketers. The eight teams have been divided across two groups namely North and South. On Monday, Western Storm and Southern Vipers of the South group were up against each other at the County Ground, Bristol.

Western Storm had won their first game against the South East Stars as they had chased down the target of 167 with six wickets in hand. Vipers were also on the same line as they had outshone the SunRisers in the first game. They had chased the target of 203 runs comfortably with more than ten overs left.

Storm won the toss and elected to field first. In the 50-over match, Vipers put up a massive score of 261 runs on the board at the loss of 7 wickets owing to the brilliant knock of 60 not out by CE Dean. Georgia Adams and Danielle Wyatt also made notable contributions by adding 55 and 53 runs respectively.

In reply to the target of 261 by Vipers, Storm started on a good note as they scored 21 runs in the first three overs. Seamer Lauren Bell brought the much-needed breakthrough as she took the wicket of FMK Morris and sent her back to the pavilion at 4 runs. Bell bowled a beautiful in-swinging yorker which directly dislodged the stumps as Morris couldn’t read the delivery carefully.

Later in the match Lauren also scalped the wicket of NAJ Wraith who was playing at 7. In the nine overs she bowled, Bell gave 41 runs taking 2 wickets while maintaining an economy of 4.55. Western Storm got all out on 239 due to the blistering spell of 4/45 by T Norris and 3/23 by Adams. The combined effort of the Southern Vipers resulted in them clinching the match by 22 runs.

After the win against the Western Storm, Southern Vipers have become table toppers in the South Group with 9 points.
