Ragana Herath to take the retirement call after World T20 2016: Ragana Hearth who has led the Sri Lankan spin bowling attack for the past 6 years since Muttaih Muralithran’s retirement says that he wants to make any decision on carrying on or retiring only after the end of World T20 2016 in India. Hearth who turns 38 during the T20 World cup in India next year admits that he is struggling to stay fit with recurring knee problems hindering his effectiveness.

The upcoming 2-Test series against West Indies represents another challenge for Hearth. His knees are an area of concern for him after undergoing knee surgery on each leg four years ago. To reduce the pain he went to Australia shortly before World T20 in 2014 and got a C reactive protein injection on each leg but it has been over a year since and the pain has returned.

Following the retirements of Mahela Jayewardene and Kumar Sangakkara, Hearth is one of the few experienced hands around for skipper Angelo Mathews to turn to for advice making his presence all the more valuable.

In the past 5 to 6 years it has been a bowling unit which has been shuffled around and played. Hearth only managed 2 wickets in the Test series against Pakistan and found himself dropped from the squad for the 3rd Test.

Rangana Hearth hopes to stay healthy long enough so that he can help Sri Lanka to defend the title that they won in 2014 beating India.

His performances against West Indies have been average as he has taken 8 wickets in 5 Test matches; he is confident of putting up good performance in the upcoming series.
