Rahul Dravid and T20 format are the two things that someone would not say in the same breath. But Dravid’s brilliant record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) proved everyone wrong. The Wall had played one T20I for India in which he had smashed a hat-trick of sixes against England.

Rahul Dravid was the first captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2008 and later went onto captain Rajasthan Royals as well. He has faced many bowlers in the tournament both national and international players who have the idea that they could breathe down the neck of one of the greatest batsmen ever to play the game, but he revealed that a Mumbai Indians bowler was the toughest he has faced in his T20 career.

It was Dravid’s ability to transform his game according to situations even in the T20 format, that he ended up with 2174 runs 89 IPL matches with 11 fifties at a strike rate of 115.51.

A witness to the meteoric rise of the T20 format, Dravid revealed the toughest bowler he has ever played in the format. That bowler is Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, who has played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League ever since 2009.

Lasith Malinga is the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League as he has scalped 154 wickets in his illustrious IPL career. Malinga also led Sri Lanka to the ICC World T20 2014 win in Bangladesh, the island nation’s first title in the T20I format.

“I think the hardest T20 bowler I have faced would have to be Malinga. If you look at Malinga’s ability to execute the yorker and the slower one absolutely at will was brilliant. So, I think Malinga was the best T20 bowler I faced. Bumrah is really good at the moment but I didn’t play Bumrah. He is almost like a younger version of Malinga”, Rahul Dravid was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.com.

Lasith Malinga will be seen back in action for Mumbai Indians on the field in IPL 2019, after spending IPL 2018 as a mentor for the MI bowlers.
