Every cricketer who represented his country at the highest level can never forget their debut game. Luckily for Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, they made their debuts for India against England at the iconic Lord’s. Whilst Ganguly registered a hundred, The Wall fell five runs short of what could’ve been a sensational debut ton.

Talking about the most iconic moments of his career, Rahul Dravid explained the significance of that moment in his career. After making his debut in 1996, the great man went on to represent India in 344 ODIs and 164 Test matches, amassing more than 10,000 runs in both formats. On Gaurav Kapur’s Breakfast with Champions, he recalled his debut as the most memorable day in his career.

“That game (2nd Test vs Australia, 2001) was one of the best moments for sure, but the debut was unforgettable. Your first day when you walk out to play for India, it is an emotion which is difficult to beat, that too at the Lord’s. I wasn’t an instant success. I had to work hard for a good five years in the domestic circuit to come there, I dreamt of it for a long time. So the debut was a special day, you remember all of it when you’re going out to bat.

I just wanted to play one game at the beginning, after I played a few I felt,”wow”. I wanted to play more. After a time the numbers were not a concern, I was just trying to bat to the best of my talent and ability, respect a fact that I was given an opportunity,” Dravid said.

On being named the sexiest sports personality alive

Back in 2005, Rahul Dravid was named the Sexiest Sports person alive in India. When Gaurav Kapur revealed this information to him, he seemed rather perplexed. When he got to know he defeated Yuvraj Singh in this prospect, he was pretty impressed and called it one of the finest achievements ever.

Really? That must rank as one of the greatest achievements ever (To beat Yuvraj Singh). Is there a certificate or something which I can hang on my wall? I can put that up along with all the awards I received from the government. Beaten Yuvraj Singh to it,” Both end up laughing.
