Rahul Dravid, Team India’s head coach during the white-ball series against Sri Lanka, seems to do no wrong at present. His boys came from a jailbreak and went on to win the second ODI by three wickets. The visitors were down and out when they were reduced to 193/7 in a run-chase of 276. Enter Deepak Chahar at number eight and, the complexion of the match changed completely.

He scored an unbeaten 69 and took the Men in Blue home in what was probably the best rearguard action ever seen in the history of ODI cricket in recent times. But it turns out, the coach himself had a say or two in the tense run-chase.

As the pressure was intensifying, Dravid came running from the dressing room to pass a message or two to Chahar. In a picture that is going viral on social media, Dravid can be seen having a word to Chahar’s cousin Rahul and making him understand what exactly needs to be said to the batter, who was slowly taking India home to the finishing line.

The fans seem to be elated by what they saw and instantly made sure to make the scene viral. Twitter liked the fact that Dravid was so involved in the run-chase and wanted a perfect end to the match.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar credits Rahul Dravid for sending Deepak Chahar ahead of him

During the post-match press conference, vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar was asked about the strategy of sending Chahar ahead of him. Bhuvi credited Dravid and said that the coach had seen Chahar batting well in previous India A tours and hence felt that he should be batting ahead.

“Look, he’s played with our coach Rahul Dravid before for India ‘A’ and some other series’ and he scored there as well. So, he (Dravid) knew he (Chahar) could bat and he can hit a few balls. So that was his call and the way he batted proved him right. We all know he can bat, he has done it many times. It wasn’t a tough call but it’s just good to see the way he scored runs,” Bhuvi said at the post-match press conference.
