After a sensational performance by Rising Pune Supergiant in the Qualifier 1 against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, we are all set for the first knockout match of the competition when defending Sunrisers Hyderabad and two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders lock horns at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the eliminator clash.
It will be must win encounter for both teams and a defeat will mean the end of the road for either of the teams. But as of now, Sunrisers seems to be in a better position as there is a possibility of a washout in the cards. It has been raining in Bengaluru for the past few days and even for today and for the 2nd qualifier, forecast are there for light to heavy rain.
We are still 2 and a half hours to go for the commencement of the game and rain has set in for the last couple of hours. If the rain persists and the match gets washed out, Hyderabad will qualify for Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians day after tomorrow as they were placed higher in the points table than Kolkata.
There was a forecast of rain on both the match days
There was a forecast of rain for the two match days in the city and as there is no probation for a reserve day, teams placed higher in the points table will go through in case of a washout. Despite the rain, we can expect a game as Bangalore is the only stadium in the world to have sub-Air system demonstrating super fast rainwater absorption facilities.
A washout will be a disappointing outcome for Kolkata who surrendered their advantage in the league stage during the last phase of the league phase losing 4 out of the last 5 matches. They led the points table after the first 9 matches but a slump in form cost them dearly and now face the prospect of bowing out in a disappointing manner. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope the match does go according to plan.
