Bangladesh’s premier pacer Mustafizur Rahman was part of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) representing Rajasthan Royals (RR). Known for smart variations in bowling such as off-cutters, yorkers and slower balls, Rahman got to teach few of the Royals young pacers about the same.

Rahman was impressed by their keenness to learn and evolve and he duly obliged to show his skills to the troops. The left-arm bowler also was leading the Royals attack in the absence of England’s ace pacer Jofra Archer. Andrew Tye too pulled out at the eleventh hour and Rahman had to take the role of a mentor as well.

His tuning with young Chetan Sakariya was much lauded by experts and critics alike, and Rahman was simply left amazed by the eagerness of the youngsters to learn and get better at it.

“They were very interested in learning. I liked this very much. They always tried to learn how I did yorkers, cutters; yorkers were going in very good rhythm at that times. From looking where my Yorkers were really good, whether the run-up was fast and slow- they wanted to know in many ways. I replied to them, and they also tried in that way,” the 25-year-old pacer said, as reported in Bdcrctime.

Royals got to play seven matches in the IPL before the tournament was suspended on May 4th due to the rising number of cases in the bio-bubble of the squads. Rahman featured in all the matches for the team and picked eight wickets. Skipper Sanju Samson used him smartly in the powerplay and at the death overs. The 25-year-old pacer was impressed with Samson’s captaincy and had a few positive words to say.

“The captain was a very very good man. I’d loved it ever since I came here, the day I did hi-hello from there.  He’s very helpful. He’s not short-tempered, always cool. Good for the team too. He always thought about the betterment of the team,” Mustafizur said.

Rahman has previously been a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians squad and language has always been a barrier for him. Although, he stated that the team was helpful and always looked after him well.
