The caravan of the Indian home season rolls on! After the culmination of what is a historic occasion at the Eden Gardens- The Pink Ball Day-Night Test- Team India will play host to the West Indies for a slew of limited-overs Internationals, which include a three-match T20 series followed by three One-day Internationals. The Men in Blue will kickstart the white-ball series against the West Indies from December 6 with the first T20 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The Indian squad for the home series against the West Indies was announced on Thursday, November 21st, and while regular skipper Virat Kohli returned to the side, one of the biggest shocks from the squad that was announced was the exclusion of tearaway wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala and the Rajasthan Royals- Sanju Samson.

Samson, who earned a national call-up for the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Bangladesh thanks to his record-breaking double hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has been unceremoniously dropped from the Indian set-up, without having given any chance to prove his worth at the International level.

Rajasthan Royals take a cheeky dig at BCCI

The right-handed swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was consigned to the bench for the entirety of the three-match series against Bangladesh, but with the incumbent keeper-batsman and his former Delhi Capitals’ teammate Rishabh Pant failing to regain his form against the Asian Tigers- both in front and behind the wickets- it was being speculated that Samson would eventually get a chance to prove his credentials against the West Indies. But, the team management and the national selectors decided against it, giving Pant another chance in the upcoming rubber.

Speaking about the team selection, India dropped Khaleel Ahmed, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, and Shardul Thakur from their T20I squad, paving way for the comeback of Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returns after a long lay-off from injury, Kuldeep Yadav and the in-form Mohammed Shami. As far as the one-day side is concerned, Kedar Jadhav has retained his place in the 50-over set-up while Shivam Dube, who impressed with the ball during the series decider against Bangladesh has earned a maiden one-day call-up.

Meanwhile, Sanu Samson’s franchise Rajasthan Royals posted a cryptic tweet where they wrote, “#gonnatellmykids this is how Sanju Samson destroys bowling attacks.”
