Amidst all the political changes in the Pakistan Government, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairperson Ramiz Raja has decided not to quit his role. It was earlier reported that Ramiz would step down from his role at the PCB because of Imran Khan’s removal as the Prime Minister. It was said that with a new political party being formed, there would be changes at the PCB, and Najam Sethi would replace Ramiz.

After Imran Khan lost the no-confidence motion, Shehbaz Sharif was appointed as the country’s Prime Minister. Ramiz, the former Pakistan Test team’s captain was elected as the chief of PCB by former PM and cricketer Imran Khan last year in September. But after he was dethroned, questions were raised at Ramiz’s position at the PCB.

As per a report by Dawn, it is being said that Ramiz Raja has decided to wait for a decision to be taken by the newly appointed PM, and let him decide his fortune at the board. He had replaced Ehsan Mani to take over the reins of the body of work. Ramiz will arrive at a decision after seeing through Sharif’s treatment of him.

Najam Sethi- a favorable candidate for the role

Meanwhile, Najam Sethi is reportedly the favourite candidate to replace Raja, due to his political ties with the current PM. Sethi has previously been at this role, and he was one of the reasons behind the introduction of the Pakistan Super League. The sport took a leap under Sethi’s rule.

When no countries visited Pakistan for international tours, former PCB Chiefs Mani and Wasim Akram made it possible and worked things out. The domestic circuit was also refurbished under their power before Ramiz had stepped in. Ramiz, though, has been an influential figure at the PCB lately. He made the Australian tour of Pakistan possible after 23 long years, as the series turned out to be historic.

In the upcoming cycle, England, New Zealand and West Indies will be touring Pakistan for their respective fixtures. After Ramiz Raja took charge, Pakistan cricket saw a huge leap forward, with Babar Azam leading the side to some iconic victories. Since Babar’s arrival, Pakistan registered their first ever victory against India at the World Cup. The team also reached the semi-finals of the World Cup last year without losing a single match in the league stage.
