Rampant Kiwis topple Zimbabwe easily, Zimbabwe v New Zealand T20I: New Zealand put up a domineering performance in what was one of the most one sided contests of late. Zimbabwe were brushed aside easily by 80 runs and New Zealand take the series 1-0. Elton Chigumbura won the toss and put the New Zealanders in to bat. New Zealand were without Brendon McCullum, their mainstay batsman but the Kiwi openers ensured that they didn’t miss him as they ran rampant into a clueless Zimbabwe bowling attack. Two of the world’s top players, Martin Guptill and Williamson played really well for their quickfire cameos but perished too soon when they looked well set to fire at all cylinders.

Worker came into the match with not a lot of expectations on his shoulders, but he announced himself onto the big stage in grand fashion. He played relatively slowly at the start of his innings registering 14 dot balls, but later he accelerated and catapulted his own strike rate to an eventual 163, getting out for a well struck 62 off 38 balls. Munro and Nathan McCullum staged late onslaughts at the fag end of the innings, to take the Kiwi score to a daunting 198. Sean Williams was the only bright side of a dismal Zimbabwean bowling as he picked up 3 wickets for 28 runs.

Chasing 199, Zimbabwe never got going, as they stuttered and staggered aimlessly, putting up a very unimpressive show. Mazakadza, Chibhabha, Chigumbura and Raza all fell for single digit scores and at the end of 9 overs, Zimbabwe were at 46 for 4. Chris Ervine was the only consolation for Zimbabwe with the bat, and barring him the Zimbabweans batted miserably bad. At the end of it all, Zimbabwe got bundled up for a paltry 118 runs. Chris Ervine top scored with 42.

Brief Scores of Zimbabwe v New Zealand T20I:

New Zealand – 198-5, (Worker-62; Williams – 3-28) won by 80 runs.
