Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Review of all the 4th round matches: The 4th round of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 turned out to be a gripping contest with Saurashtra getting the better of Hyderabad, Vidarbha flooring Assam and Karnataka hanging into a dramatic draw.

Sehwag boosted Haryana to grab 3 points while the ill-tempered contest between Delhi and Bengal ending in a draw. Rajat Bhatia was instrumental in Rajasthan’s set up while Uttar Pradesh ran through the Andhra line up. Let’s have a look at all the 4th round matches along with the brief scores.

Group A

1. Vidarbha gets the better of Assam

Vidarbha registered their first outright win of the season by beating Assam by three wickets in Nagpur. Yadav and Wakhare shared 8 wickets between them, as Assam folded up for 206.

Assam took a lead of 53 runs after bowling Vidarbha out for 154. Sarwate turned the match on its head by picking 6 wickets in the 2^nd innings to floor Assam for 160. Vidarbha chased down 213 and losing 7 wickets.

W Jaffer (Vidarbha) was the man of the match for his consistent batting show.

Vidarbha 154 (Satish 67, Jaffer 40, Purkayastha 4-50) and 213 for 7 (Jaffer 71, Fazal 63, Verma 3-55, Purkayastha 3-90) beat Assam 206 (Syed Mohammed 69, Verma 57, Wakhare 4-47, Umesh Yadav 4-49) and 160 (Purkayastha 35, Verma 38, Sarvate 6-64, Wakhare 4-37) by three wickets

2. Karnataka’s unbeaten run continues

Karnataka’s 33- match unbeaten run faced a threat from Jayant Yadav’s 6 wicket haul, as Karnataka’s Manish Pandey played out 26 balls with a broken finger to salvage a draw.

Haryana picked up 3 points, courtesy their first innings lead. Virender Sehwag boosted Haryana’s chances by smashing century in the first innings.

J Yadav (Haryana) received the man of the match award for his splendid spell in the 2^nd innings.

Karnataka 221 (Rahul 63, Gautam 41*, Dagar 3-10) and 207 for 8 (Uthappa 66, Samarth 32, Jayant 6-65) drew with Haryana 331 (Sehwag 136, Jayant 100, Sharath 5-48) and 262 for 9 (Saini 52, Sehwag 40, Bishnoi 33, Gopal 4-53, Vinay 2-56)

3. Bengal grabs 3 points against Delhi

Delhi witnessed an ill-tempered game as Manoj Tiwary’s 97 helped Bengal grab 3 points. Bengal, who walked away with three points courtesy a first-innings lead, declared on 217 for 5 to set Delhi an improbable target of 325 in a little over two sessions.

Delhi lost two early wickets but recovered courtesy Rishabh Pant’s 57 and Nitish Rana 49 to be placed at 161 for 4 when the game was called off at the start of the mandatory overs.

SD Chatterjee (Bengal) continued his good form and earned the man of the match award

Delhi 249 (Milind 77, Nitish Rana 43, Pragyan Ojha 4-77, Dinda 3-49) and 161 for 4 (Rishabh Pant 57, Nitish Rana 49, Gani 3-47) drew with Bengal 357 (Chatterjee 116, Saha 72, Sangwan 4-48) and 217 for 5 dec (Manoj Tiwary 97, Gani 62, Narwal 3-27)

4. Rajat Bhatia shines for Rajasthan

Ashok Menaria’s 150 dismissed Maharashtra’s chances of going for an out-right win.

Maharashtra replied to Rajasthan’s 318 in a familiar fashion, as Tripathi scored a century to boost their chances.

Chasing 244 in the last day, Maharashtra batted for only 33 balls, as Umpires called it a day.

Maharashtra’s  lead  was largely achieved on the back of Rahul Tripathi’s century, that took Maharashtra to the fourth spot. Rajasthan were placed eighth.

RA Tripathi (Maharashtra) earned the man of the match award.

Group B

1. Uttar Pradesh grabs headlines

Uttar Pradesh completed a fairytale turnaround win, their first of the season despite being bowled out for 170 in the first innings against Andhra. Chasing 183 for victory, Andhra collapsed for 126 on the final day as Ankit Rajpoot ran through their top order to finish with figures of 5 for 35. Andhra lacked application, as they struggled to form partnerships.

P Kumar (Uttar Pradesh) received the man of the match award.

Uttar Pradesh 170 (Praveen Kumar 47, Srivastava 42, Siva Kumar 3-29) and 309 (Dwivedi 72, Saif 56, Praveen Kumar 53, Vijay Kumar 4-68) beat Andhra 297 (Prasanth 67, Bharat 62, Kumar 4-86) and 126 (Vijaykumar 28, Rajpoot 5-35) by 56 runs

2. Mumbai settles for draw

Mumbai played out 61.3 overs in their 2nd innings to scoot for a draw against Baroda. Surya kumar Yadav strucked his 6th century, as both the teams settled for a draw. Devdhar scored 95 for Baroda, while Kulkarni picked up 5 wickets.

SS Iyer (Mumbai) was adjudged the man of the match for his 173 in the first innings.

Mumbai 447 (Iyer 173, Nayar 89, Argal 4-67) and 202 for 5 (Yadav 100*, Herwadkar 58, Swapnil 3-70) drew with Baroda 397 (Devdhar 95, Kulkarni 5-82)

3. Madhya Pradesh played out a dull draw against Punjab

Jalaj Saxena anchored Madhya Pradesh’s second innings with a steady 95 off 213 balls against Punjab in their Group B game in Patiala before the match ended in a draw.

Captain Devendra Bundela and Rameez Khan both hit half-centuries and formed a 112-run seventh-wicket stand before the game was drawn.

Jalaj S Saxena (Madhya Pradesh) received the man of the match award.

Madhya Pradesh 370 (Shrivastava 131, Saxena 70, Ladda 5-110) and 314 for 6 (Saxena 95, Bundela 55, Ladda 3-52) drew with Punjab 358 (Kaul 139, Ankit 5-122)

4. Gujarat hits Railways by an innings

Railways lost 16 wickets in the day, as they faced an innings and 36 runs defeat to Gujarat. Panchal scored a match winning 141, while RP Singh picked up 4 wickets in the first innings.

For Railways, Wakaskar stroked a fighting 93 with 12 boundaries. Railways went down without a fight in the 2nd innings, as Gujarat grabbed 7 straight points.

PK Panchal (Gujarat) was the man of the match.

Guajarat 387 (Panchal 141, Kalaria 80, Parthiv 58, Anureet 4-91) beat Railways 234 (Saurabh 93, RP Singh 4-55, Bumrah 4-47) and 117 (Mehul 3-25. Bumrah 3-37)

Group C

1. Goa and Himachal Pradesh settled for a draw

Dharamsala  witnessed a dull draw, as the hosts picked up 3 vital points. Kauthankar scored a valiant century to guide Goa to 101.

Chasing 316 to win, Himachal Pradesh played out 30 overs, notching up 125 runs at the loss of 2 wickets.

P.Dogra received appreciation for his vital knock.

Goa 324 (Kamat 163, Kauthankar 74, Dhawan 6-108) and 367 for 6 declared (Kauthankar 101, Asnodkar 72) drew with Himachal Pradesh 376 (Dogra 167, Parameswaran 5-87) and 125 for 2 (Prashant Chopra 60)

2. Tripura hangs in for a draw

Centuries from Arindam Das and Parvinder Singh ensured Tripura batted throughout the day to secure a draw against Jammu & Kashmir in Agartala.

The result meant J&K had to settle for just three first-innings points, rather than the six they would have got from an outright win.

Rasool scored 130 for Jammu & Kashmir, while Mithun Manhas chipped in with 96 for the visitors.

Jammu & Kashmir 428 (Rasool 130, Manhas 96) and 163 for 3 declared (Bandeep 51*) drew with Tripura 224 (Parvinder 60, Dayal 4-51) and 243 for 2 (Arindam 106*, Parvinder 100)

3. Kerala secures 3 crucial points

Kerala’s spinners Karaparambil Monish and Rohan Prem picked up four wickets apiece, helping the team to a three-run innings lead, and as a result, three crucial points from their drawn game against Services in Delhi. PR Prem smashed 101 for Kerala, as Services missed the first innings lead by 3 runs.

PR Prem (Kerala) bagged the man of the match award.

Kerala 322 (Prem 101, Jagadeesh 59) and 176 for 3 declared (Kodoth 72) drew with Services319 (Anshul 68, Chauhan 56, Prem 4-44) and 43 for 4 (Baby 3-24)

4. Jadeja sinks Hyderabad

3 matches, 37 wickets, 2 half centuries and 6 five wicket hauls, this has been Ravindra Jadeja’s story in this years Ranji Trophy.

Ravindra Jadeja went about his business adding to that tally by dismantling Hyderabad’s batsmen for the second time in two days. He collected 7 for 60, and in the process equaled the record held by Australia’s Charlie Turner for most consecutive five-fors in first-class cricket.

Bavanaka Sandeep top-scored for Hyderabad with 46, but received little by way of support from his team-mates, as Ravindra Jadeja bundled the team out for 134 in 40 overs to seal a 35-run victory.

RA Jadeja (Saurashtra) won the man of the match award for his match winning heroics.
