The Ranji Trophy 2015-16 season came to an end after the most successful team in the history of the tournament, Mumbai grabbing their 41st Ranji title after defeating the Saurashtra by an innings in the Finals inside 3 days at Pune. Interestingly, out of the 82 Ranji seasons, Mumbai have won 41 times as many as the remaining teams won combined.

This season has witnessed many some close games with the competition among the teams fighting out for the title has also been improved. Mumbai will now face against the Rest of India team in the Irani Trophy starting from March 6th in Mumbai. Here we analyze the stats recorded during season.

0 – Number of times Mumbai have lost outright in this season, no other team ended up without losing outright even once in this season. Bengal didn’t lose even one game outright in group stage but lost to Madhya Pradesh in semis.

1 – Mumbai’s 1 wicket win over Tamil Nadu is the narrowest margin by wickets in this season.

2 – Number of times Mumbai have conceded first innings in this season and ended up winning the game. They conceded first innings lead to Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. 9 – Number of dismissals Vidarbha’s Amol Ubarhande has made as wicketkeeper against Bengal. These are the most dismissals made by a wicketkeeper in a match in this season. Amol made 7 dismissals during first innings of the game, also the most dismissals made by a wicketkeeper in an innings in this season.

10 – 4 matches in this Ranji season ended with teams winning by 10 wickets margin.

10.55 – Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling average, the best for any other player in this season. (Min: 100 overs)

11 – The number of 50-plus scores recorded by Shreyas Iyer in this season, the most by any player. He also equaled the record of 11 fifty plus scores in a season by Vijay Bharadwaj (1998-99) & Abhishek Nayar (2012-13).

15 – Balls taken by Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandeep Singh to score his fifty against Tripura. It is the fastest fifty recorded in this season.

306* – Partnership stand for sixth wicket between Punjab’s Gurkeerat Singh & Gitansh Khera against is the highest partnership for any wicket during this season.

395 – Mumbai’s 395 run win over Jharkhand in quarter-final is the biggest win margin in terms of runs during the season.

421 – Runs scored during Bengal and Odisha league match, the lowest aggregated game during the season.

500 – 28 times teams managed to score more than 500 in an innings during the season.

707/8 – Himachal Pradesh’s total of 707/8 vs Hyderabad is the highest innings total in this season.

1321 – Runs scored by Mumbai’s Shreyas Iyer in this season, the most by any other player. In overall, only VVS Laxman with 1415 runs has scored more than Iyer in a Ranji Trophy season.

2174 – Number of dot balls bowled by Vidarbha’s Akshay Wakhare in this season, the most by any player. No other bowler managed to bowl more than 1800 dots in this season.
