In Round 1 of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Madhya Pradesh beat Uttar Pradesh – Harpreet Singh Bhatia unbeaten double ton and Chandrakant Sakure’s 6-wicket haul in the second inning helped MP beat UP by an innings and 64 runs in the season opener.
On a wicket that assisted the bowlers and was not at all easy for batting Abhishek Nayar stood out in the last inning to help Mumbai chase down the target with 2 wickets in hand, in a nailbiting finish against Tamil Nadu.
Young Delhi batsmen Rishab Pant and Nitish Rana hit identical scores of 146 as Delhi posted 589 runs in the only innings they batted; they had enough firepower in their bowling unit to bowl Assam out twice. As a result, Delhi beat Assam by an innings and 83 runs.
Century from Kaushal Singh (130) and a good bowling performance in both the innings helped Jharkhand beat Maharashtra in quite a convincing fashion.
