The final day of the round 2 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 saw a few teams register handsome wins. Some had to settle for a draw. The biggest highlight of the day was Rishabh Pant’s remarkable triple ton. Maharashtra had earlier piled on a mammoth total of 635 kudos to a record 594-run stand between Swapnil Gugale and Ankeet Bawane. In response, Pant’s triple ton came in just 320 balls as he struck his highest score in FC career.

He was eventually dismissed on 308 in 326 balls with 42 fours and 9 sixes. His strike rate of over 94 was the key highlight of his innings. The match ended in a draw. Bengal batsmen Sreevats Goswami and opener Easwaran scored centuries each in the drawn game against Uttar Pradesh. Railways batsman Saurabh Wakaskar’s century went in vain against Tamil Nadu as they fell short by 174 runs on the final day.

Baroda’s batsmen Kedar Devdhar and Deepak Hooda also scored centuries on the last day but only to eventually draw the game against Mumbai. Yuvraj Singh’s Punjab restricted Madhya Pradesh to 180 and won by 126 runs. Manpreet bagged 4 wickets as Siddharth Kaul supported him with a 3-for. The match saw Ishwar Pandey (Madhya Pradesh) and Manpreet Grewal (Punjab) take 10-wicket match hauls.

Tripura defeated Services by 219 runs. This was their first ever win since the 2012-13 season. Odisha’s Suryakant Pradhan bagged 5/69 against Saurashtra to set up the base for his team’s win at Hyderabad. After the game, Odisha Cricket Association announced a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each to Man of the match Suryakant Pradhan, who picked up 8 wickets and Sandeep Patnaik, who scored century in first innings for their contribution in this win.
