The Day two of the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 witnessed a couple of stellar individual performances. Otherwise, it was a bowler-dominated day. Saurashtra could make only 121 runs at the cost in its first innings while Odisha, also performed in somewhat similar fashion, managing just 143/8 at Stumps batting in reply to team Rajasthan’s 323.

Himachal Pradesh piled on 370 runs and built a healthy lead over Jammu and Kashmir who were bowled out for just132 runs the previous day. Baroda, who were bowled out for just 93 in the first innings, made a good comeback and bundled out Tamil Nadu for 337 runs. The TN side ended strongly at 79/1 but the lower order collapse triggered by veteran Munaf Patel, who took 4/91, ensured that Tamil Nadu could not build a huge lead.

Yuvraj Singh continued to sizzle in this year’s Ranji Trophy and slammed an unbeaten 72 run knock to help Punjab finish in command on 244/3 while batting response to Uttar Pradesh’s first innings total of 335. Saurabh Kumar (3/59), none of the UP bowlers were successful today. Services looked in no mood do declare their innings as they ballooned their overnight score of 170/3 to 400/8 at stumps.  Shamsher Yadav struck a wonderful 136 run knock and ended up as the top scorer for his side.

The Delhi versus Jharkhand match is perhaps the most exciting match which is currently underway. Fans at the St Xavier’s KCA Ground in Trivandrum witnessed scintillating innings from two of the brightest young batting talents in India – Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant. Ishan, the India Under – 19 skipper, today cracked a record breaking 273 runs knock while Pant replied with a promising unbeaten 107 run special. Thanks to pants’ counter – attacking knock, Delhi finished at 225/3 and are well placed at the moment batting in response to Jharkhand’s mammoth 493.

Unfortunately, the day two play of the Hyderabad versus Tripura and Gujarat versus Bengal matches could not be possible today as well due to bad playing conditions.
