The last day of Round 6 of Ranji Trophy 2016/17 proved to be a day of results and exciting cricket. Jharkhand and Maharashtra had already completed innings victory on the penultimate day and Andhra today followed the trend with a victory by an innings and 38 runs against Tripura.
Karnataka was the first team to register a victory today. They were just 4 wickets short of a win against Rajasthan and got them conceding just 13 more runs in the first hour of play. Skipper Vinay Kumar’s 5-wicket haul pave the way for Karnataka’s massive victory by a margin of 393 runs. This is Karnataka’s 4th victory in a row and are way ahead of any other side in the points table.
Bowlers continued to enjoy a good day in Mysore. Mumbai completed their second consecutive win dismissing UP for only 173 in the final innings today while defending 295. Hyderabad had the most inspiring day with the ball today which led them to a remarkable victory. They took 11 wickets today, enforced the follow-on on Services and then easily chased down the target of 20 in the final hour of the day to achieve a 10 wicket victory. Similarly, in Nagpur, Railways completed their win without any fuss scoring the remaining 23 runs early in the morning.
Even the drawn games in the competition were well fought. While Jammu and Kashmir batted throughout the day losing only 3 wickets against Haryana, Goa turned the tables on Kerala while chasing 325. They came agonisingly close, within 46 runs of the target and for the first time, had their foot on Kerala’s neck with the help of a quick fire 151 from Sagun Kamat. The game between Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh also proved to be a see-saw ride. In the end, both the teams would be happy to end the game with a clinical draw.
Parthiv Patel lit up Vadodara in a drawn game. He scored an unbeaten 139 in only 170 balls to let Gujarat have a final crack at MP batsmen but Harpreet Singh’s 103* secured the draw for MP. The game in Rajkot was already heading towards a draw but it was remained to be seen that which team will acquire the first innings lead points. Tamil Nadu’s tailenders added 23 runs today to take Tamil Nadu over Bengal’s first innings total.
