The Holkar stadium in Indore is all set to host the big finals of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18. Delhi will be locking horns with Vidarbha for the ultimate glory this season as the match kicks off on December 29. Ahead of the finals, both teams had their practice sessions at the venue. Surprisingly, Delhi’s batting mainstay Gautam Gambhir was seen missing at the practice session.
The crowds had flocked the stadium hoping to see the veteran Indian star in action. However, they only ended up getting disappointed as there were no signs of Gautam Gambhir at the Delhi net session. This also created some ripples in the media about the availability of Gambhir for the final match. He has been one of the key players for team Delhi this season.
Pant quashes all rumors
Just when the speculations had started to ripen up, Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant quashed all such rumors. He remarked that Gautam Gambhir is absolutely fit and will be a part of the final match. He is set to join the team on Thursday evening (December 28, 2017). Pant also went on to appreciate the support that Gambhir has given him in the season.
As per the quotes in Sportstarlive, Rishabh Pant quoted, “Gautam bhaiya is there, and even the others are supporting me.” He further noted that Gambhir and coach KP Bhaskar keep telling the players about how to go about the game. But the dynamics of the game is changing so frequently that the only way to retain one’s spot in the team is by performing well.
“They tell us what they did, and those things help. But the game is changing fast, so you have to play good cricket. You need to perform well and play your best,” Pant said.
If Delhi goes on to win the title this season, it will be their first triumph in almost about a decade. On the other hand, this is Vidarbha’s maiden appearance in Ranji Trophy final.
