On the final day of the first round of Ranji Trophy 2019/20, besides the game in Guwahati, all the games were completed and some teams registered much-needed wins in their respective fixtures. There weren’t any surprises, with most of the big teams going over the line, as many might’ve expected.
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu played out another amazing thriller in the Indian domestic circuit. Tamil Nadu fought hard on the final day and bowled Karnataka out for 151 runs in the second innings. Tamil Nadu needed 181 runs to win the fixture, but Krishnappa Gowtham added 8 more wickets in the second innings to his 6 in the first innings, which saw their opponents get bowled out for 154 runs. Gowtham registered figures of 14/170 and was named man of the match.
Mumbai completed a sensational win over Baroda having stamped their authority on the match yesterday. Deepak Hooda and Abhimanyu Rajput registered half-centuries and tried to get a draw out of the game, but Shams Mulani chipped in with an important 4-fer, which enabled Mumbai to complete the game well before expected. They won the game by 309 runs.
Nitish Rana and Kunal Chandela lead Delhi’s fightback
After getting bowled out for a paltry score and staring at an inevitable defeat on Day 3, Delhi steered their way towards an amazing comeback. Although they earned just a point out of the fixture, Nitish Rana and Kunal Chandela’s fightback will give them great confidence going forward.
Vidarbha failed to stamp their authority despite having a clear advantage in the first innings. Ricky Bhui scored a 209-ball hundred and Srikar Bharat followed the suit to complete his century, which saw Andhra finish the game at 314/3 in 103.4 overs. Vidarbha begin their title defense with a three-pointer in their opening game.
