The fourth round of the ongoing 2019-20 Ranji Trophy- comprising many enthralling games- kicked off across the length and breadth of the country today. After the first Day’s action, the matches resumed on their second Day with many staggering performances.

Cheteshwar Pujara hogged the limelight by smashing his seventh double hundred in the Ranji Trophy. He was also assisted by Sheldon Jackson, who played a brilliant knock of 161 runs to steer Saurashtra to a mammoth total of 581/7. The duo added 394 runs together before Jackson got out.

Devdutt Padikkal, who has been in superb form lately, was not successful in providing Karnataka with a good start. Meanwhile, Vidarbha registered a thumping victory on Day 2 itself after bowling out Bengal on 99 in their second innings. Aditya Sarwate was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped six wickets to dismantle Bengal’s batting attack.

In the encounter between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, the former posted a massive 488-run total on the scoreboard. Skipper Aditya Tare led his side from the front as he exhibited a brilliant knock of 154 runs. He was also assisted by Shashank Attarde at the end, who smashed a brilliant half-century. In reply, Tamil Nadu posted 66 runs before stumps without the loss of any wickets as Abhinav Mukund scored an unbeaten 52.

After Parvez Rasool’s brilliant 182-run knock, Services retaliated by amassing 238 runs on the scoreboard on the second day. Their lower-order trio comprising Arjun Sharma, Arun Bamal and Diwesh Pathania delivered crucial contribution with the bat to propel Servies’ total to 238/9.

After dismissing Gujarat for 325 runs, Rajasthan gathered 142 runs on the board on the completion od Day 2. Manendar Singh scored an unbeaten 61 to guide Rajasthan to a flying start. He was assisted by Yash Kothari (45) and Mahipal Lomror (32).

Andhra Pradesh also showcased a robust batting display against Hyderabad as their total read 237/1 on the conclusion of Day 2. Prashanth Kumar smashed 117 runs along with Gnaneshwar, who scored 73 runs, to propel Andhra to a stable start. After the dismissal of Gnaneshwar, skipper Hanuma Vihari steadied Andhra’s ship by his steady 41-run knock.

Maharashtra batting force also stood out against Jharkhand. The Ankit Bawne-led side gathered a massive 434-run total on the board on the back of some astounding individual performances. Azim Kazi (140) and Vishant More (120) smashed brilliant tons to decimate Jharkhand’s bowling unit. In reply, Jharkhand lost two wickets in the first over itself against Mukesh Choudhary.
