Baba Aparajith and Baba Indrajith scored centuries for Tamil Nadu on day one of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group H fixtures against Chattisgarh at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati and they have become the first twins in history to score hundreds in the same innings of a first-class game. The identical duo shared a partnership of 206 runs for the third wicket and made a merry of the Chattisgarh bowlers with an aggressive display.

Indrajith, who scored a century in the first game against Delhi, looked in supreme touch with the bat and continued his purple patch with a 127-run knock in just 141 balls comprising of 21 boundaries. Aparajith was happy to take his time and he had the best show from the other end. Soon, the senior pro also got to his century towards the end of the day and remained unbeaten on 101 to leave Tamil Nadu in an excellent position of 308/4 at stumps.

We root for each other always: Baba Indrajith

Indrajith mentioned that the twins have been enjoying batting together from their younger days and recalled the last instance of both the cricketers going on to make a century in the same first-class game. However, it was as opponents in the Duleep Trophy in 2018 and Aparajith was playing for India Red while Indrajith represented the India Green.

“Batting with each other has always been fun right from the time we took up the sport as kids. We root for each other always.  While the last time we scored hundreds in a match –it was for different teams, but doing so in the same match and that too for Tamil Nadu is a truly special feeling altogether,” Indrajith told TOI

“He was striking so fluently and I didn’t want to do anything silly. With the wicket on the slower side, the idea was to settle down before playing my shots,” Aparajith said

Indrajith recently bagged his maiden IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders picking him up as a wicketkeeping option and Aparajith was an important member of the U19 World Cup-winning side in 2012.
