Balwinder Sandhu has given his views on the role played by Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev in the movie 83. The film recreated the incidents that happened during India’s first-ever World Cup win in the year 1983. It has been portrayed as one of the best movies in the year 2021 and it is expected to win a lot of awards as well.

Ranveer is a popular Bollywood actor who likes the challenge of playing different roles and he has been immensely praised around the globe for reliving the memories of Kapil. Balwainder Sandhu who played a crucial role in the 1983 World cup with the ball has also joined the bandwagon in praising the superstar. He stated that Ranveer put in a huge amount of effort for the movie 83 and noted very few differences between him and Kapil Dev. He also reckoned that Ranveer had a lot of energy which helped to take up the role at ease.

“In the movie 83, you will see Kapil Dev, not Ranveer Singh. Ranveer’s work ethic was fantastic. His vision and characterisation of Kapil Dev were just amazing. He is really a hard worker. He worked for hours to get into the skin of Kapil Dev’s character. It was tough but he accepted the challenge and did the job wonderfully.

“He is an amazing character. He worked really hard for this role. He is full of energy and a nice person to be with,” Balwinder told Times of India.

He just accepted everything, says Balwinder

Balwinder Sandhu also added that Ranveer just kept on accepting whatever they told him about the 1983 World Cup and recalled how the actor worked with an open mind. “Whatever he (Ranveer) was told by us, he just surrendered and accepted everything. He had more than the level of skill we were expecting from him. He worked with an open mind. That’s the best part about him,” he added.

Balwinder picked up two wickets in the 1983 World Cup final and he played 8 Tests and 22 ODIs for India in his international career. He was a useful batter down the order and contributed at times for the side.
