Sourav Ganguly’s Test career began in England when he made his debut at the Lord’s in 1996 with a 131-run knock. He followed it with 136 in Nottingham as he averaged 105 in the two matches he played on the tour. The stylish left-hander then travelled to Britain in 2002, this time as the leader of the pack. He led India to an innings win at Headingley following his brave decision to bat first and also smashed a breezy 128. His scores of 68 and 99 at Trent Bridge saved the Asian giants from a defeat.

He contributed 351 runs to the team’s cause in a rarely drawn away series. Ganguly’s third and final tour in 2007 turned out to be a fruitful one to the team’s perspective as India won the 3-match Test series 1-0. Though his highest score in the series was only 79, a total of 249 runs in 6 innings at an average of 49.8 proved that Ganguly enjoyed his stay in England once again.
