KL Rahul and Shubman Gill to compete for Orange Cap: Aakash Chopra

When asked about the potential candidates for the leading run-getters in IPL 2023, Aakash Chopra was quick to name KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. Both the openers smashed big runs in the 2022 edition and are among the leading contenders for the IPL 2023 Orange Cap race.

Rahul has struggled for consistency lately, especially in Test cricket, but has amazing numbers in IPL history. While captaining debutant Lucknow Super Giants, the wicketkeeper batter scored 616 runs from 15 innings with two hundreds and four half-centuries in IPL 2022. Gill also shone for champions Gujarat Titans by scoring 483 runs from 15 innings and was among the top-five run-getters last season.

Aakash also backed Royal Challengers Bangalore's Virat Kohli to forget the last season's trouble and compete with Rahul-Gill for the Orange Cap. However, Jatin picked Chennai Super Kings' opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was the leading run-getter during the IPL 2021 and led the scoring chart for CSK in IPL 2023 with 368 runs from 14 innings.

For the IPL 203 Purple Cap race, Jatin picked Punjab Kings' speedster Kagiso Rabada and RCB's spin ace Wanindu Hasaranga. Rabada was the leading pace wicket-taker last season with 23 wickets from just 13 innings with two four-wicket hauls. Hasaranga made a big impact last year with 26 wickets from 16 innings and fell just one wicket short of Yuzvendra Chahal's highest 27-wicket tally.
