The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have one win in three league matches of IPL 2022 and have been average with their performances. They are facing Gujarat Titans (GT) in their fourth match of the season. The former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer spoke on the overall balance and performance of SRH in the tournament so far.

While speaking about the match-winners in the current SRH team, Wasim found it quite surprising as the franchise let go of the experienced players like David Warner and Rashid Khan, who had done well for the franchise over the years, and did not construct a strong team in the 2022 edition as well. He reckoned that it’s tough to fight in the tournament of 10 teams in the absence of match-winners.

“If you talk about the history of the IPL, Rashid Khan is probably one of the two biggest match-winners, apart from Sunil Narine being definitely another one. If you compare Rashid and Williamson, you will always pick Rashid, no replacement is possible for the spinner,” said Wasim Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show’ on CricTracker.

Wasim Jaffer also talked about SRH’s batting order, which is looking a little weak, and recommended the captain Kane Williamson to come at number four and keep Rahul Tripathi at number three due to his good form.

Washington Sundar’s strength is taking wickets in powerplay: Wasim Jaffer

The former India cricketer also felt that it was not right to compare Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar, but hailed the latter’s acumen with the ball in the powerplay overs in terms of putting a brake on the run-flow and picking wickets as well. He urged the SRH team management to use Sundar’s batting prowess a lot more, as he has proved himself in the previous games and in international cricket, too.

“I think Williamson got it right from the second match, tactically, and bowled Sundar in the powerplay overs, which was a much-needed step. Sundar doesn’t give you enough balls on the arc which frustrates the batters. If you use him properly, he is a vital player for the team,” Wasim added. In the three matches so far, Sundar has scalped four wickets and garnered 58 runs.
