20-year-old Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has been one of the most talked about bowlers in recent times. Ever since the leggie has started taking wickets at the rates of knots in limited overs cricket, his rise has been synonymous with the rise of Afghanistan team in world cricket.

The Nangarhar born leg-spinner learned the art of bowling with his brothers who are all exponents of the art of leg spin and helped him develop his craft. Rashid made his ODI and T20I debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo and since then has become one of the most sought-after bowlers in the T20 format, where he has had much of his success.

Rashid Khan talks about his game and his enjoying the cricket

Rashid Khan has played 57 ODIs, picking 123 wickets with the best of 7/18. In 38 T20Is, he has picked 75 wickets with a best of 5/3 and in 2 Tests, he has 9 wickets with a best of 5/82. However, he has received global fame for playing in hosts of T20 leagues in Australia, Bangladesh, Windies, England and India and in 158 T20 matches, he has picked 239 wickets.

While T20 cricket has given Rashid the fame, it’s not his preferred format. “I love T20s but I enjoy playing ODIs more. You have more time and you can think of your game. We have enough time to manage the batsmen,” Rashid was quoted as saying in an interview with Cricbuzz.

“You need to enjoy each and every moment. If you don’t then you suddenly lose your momentum and confidence,” he says. “When I look lazy on tv, my nephews call me and ask me about what happened. I have to keep that is mind. The most important thing is fitness. In the last two years, I have worked really hard on that.”

Rashid is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2019 and has had a Man of the Match-worthy performance already against the Rajasthan Royals. He has 40 wickets in IPL 34 matches so far.
