Ravi Ashwin, the Indian off-spinner, is set to represent the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He last played in the Wellington Test against New Zealand earlier this year and would be desperate to make his comeback to the field amidst the coronavirus pandemic. It’s for the first time that he will be playing for the Delhi franchise in the IPL.

In the meantime, before leaving for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the T20 tournament will take place, the 33-year-old got some valuable tips from his daughters. Ashwin’s wife Prithi uploaded an adorable video where their kids gave the veteran cricketer some advises on how to stay safe while travelling in the pandemic situation.

She captioned the video and wrote, “Our girls giving @ashwinravi99 tips to stay safe during his flight It’s going to be super hard without him 🙁 I mean who is going to sit for two sets of online classes now? #thatthatmanthatthatproblem.” Ashwin also was delighted to see the video. He re-tweeted it with love emojis.

Ricky Ponting gives Ashwin a message

The Capitals roped in Ashwin from the Kings XI Punjab, a team that he captained in the 2018 and 2019 edition of the IPL. In the Punjab franchise, he failed to take the team to the playoffs. Even as KXIP let him go, they appointed KL Rahul as their captain. Ashwin will now be looking to put his best foot forward for the Capitals, who lost to the Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 2 last season.

Recently, Ricky Ponting, DC’s head coach, said that Ashwin won’t be allowed to do ‘Mankading’, a dismissal that caught the headlines in 2019. Ponting, the two-time World Cup-winning captain, mentioned that he would be having a chat with the Tamil Nadu-born regarding the same. However, he didn’t forget to laud Ashwin for his skills and contributions with his crafty art.

“I’ll be having a chat with him about [mankad], that’s the first thing I’ll do. Obviously, he wasn’t in our squad last year, he’s one of our players that we tried to afford to bring in this year,” Ponting had said.
