Thousands of Tamil Nadu citizens took to streets, on Thursday, March 14, across Southern India to protest the mass rape and molestation of women and girls in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district Pollachi. Shocking videos related to the incident have been viral on social media. They showcased how working women and college girls were subjected to rape and molestation by a gang in the Pollachi district. The government of Tamil Nadu decided to transfer the case to the CBI, who are now investigating the case.

In the light of the Pollachi incident, Twitter has been taken by storm too. India’s veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin, who was last seen in the Adelaide Test in December last year, took to Twitter and expressed his unawareness of the situation in Pollachi. The reception of the inquiry by Ashwin wasn’t too good as many people mocked his unawareness of such a big and horrendous situation that has rocked Tamil Nadu.

Following the turmoils, the security in the district was elevated and holidays were announced in colleges on Thursday with the increase in agitations. Additionally, more terrible details of the abuse came out to the forefront. Consequently, all colleges were shut down in Pollachi, which is situated 535 km from the state capital Chennai.

All students are protesting against the criminals behind this shameful act and demanding justice. The culprits have been identified, whose names are- Thirunavukkarasu, Sabarirajan, Vasanthakumar, Satish, who are now in custody, according to the reports. The videos on social media have revealed that this gang has been operational in Pollachi which sexually assaults college going female students and other working professionals and then blackmails them.

Ashwin’s unawareness gets trolled on Twitter

Earlier, prior to the Pollachi case, Ravi Ashwin wrote on Twitter: “There are so many pressing issues that need to be addressed in my state and my country. Every morning,  I open Twitter and tell myself ‘justice can be delayed and not denied’ ‘change is inevitable etc’ All the above quotes are just to cheat my emotions and not say something.” His recent tweet regarding the Pollachi case has made him a recipient of mockery.
