Ravi Shastri has been instrumental in the Indian team’s success in the past 2-3 years. He along with captain Virat Kohli made India a formidable team in all the three formats of the game. Shastri was recently handed a second term as the head coach of the Men in Blue after being backed by the skipper himself.

Shastri was previously the director of cricket for the Indian team and in July 2017 was appointed as Head Coach for the national side by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, replacing Anil Kumble, whose contract was not removed after a much public spat with captain Kohli. However, he has faced criticism of being a lackey for Kohli, supporting the captain in creating an autocracy in the team.

Shastri shares a picture with no luggage as compared to his teammates

Shastri, whose contract got renewed after the World Cup 2019, has been extended till 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. Recently, Shastri was in a jovial mood and decided to share an image from his playing days when there were fewer security concerns and players also liked to shop a lot.

He shared a throwback image of himself with his teammates including Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kris Srikkanth and others in an airport. While many of his teammates are seen with bags and bags of goodies apart from their luggage, Shastri is standing oozing swag with both hands in his pant pockets and also wrote a caption saying, “Unlike some of my teammates, I was always a light traveller”, while posting it on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Shastri started his new stint as the head coach of the Indian team with a complete sweep of West Indies in their own backyard in all the three formats. This is his fourth stint with the team having served briefly as the Cricket Manager (2007 tour of Bangladesh), Team Director (2014-2016) and head coach (2017-2019).

India drew the 3-match T20I series against South Africa at home 1-1 and will now face the Proteas in a 3-match Test series, which starts from October 2. The Team India holds the top rank in the ICC World Test Championship points table with 120 points, thanks to a 2-0 Test series win over the West Indies.
