The Indian team who was on the tour to Australia achieved a series win which no one would have given them a chance with. The team, under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, won the fourth and the final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 at the Gabba in Brisbane and won the series by 2-1. It was a historic win for India and it was possible only because most players played their part and contributed to the win.

On Tuesday, hours after the match finished, BCCI uploaded a video in which the head coach Ravi Shastri was seen giving a speech. In the short clip which was uploaded by BCCI on Twitter, all the players had gathered inside the Indian dressing room at the Gabba, while Shastri delivered the speech.

Coach Ravi Shastri calls Pujara ‘the true warrior’

The coach first praised the 21-year-old Shubman Gill, who scored a brilliant 91 in the fourth innings of the Test match. The knock from Gill initially set up the win as his attacking run-scoring kept India in the game and they never were too behind on the required rate, which was around 3.3 at the start of the day.

After this, Ravi Shastri praised the senior pro, Cheteshwar Pujara for his knock of 56 runs, for which he took 211 balls. During the course of the innings, the right-handed batsman took at least 10 blows on his body. The coach said, “you are a true warrior” to Pujara.

After this, the coach praised Rishabh Pant for his “outstanding” knock of unbeaten 89 which helped India finish the match. It was Pant who guided India to the victory after Pujara and all the other batsmen got out. He also hilariously said that the wicketkeeper-batsman gave a heart attack to many Indian fans with his kind of batting.

Most importantly, Ravi Shastri also credited the win to each and every member of the contingent, from support staff to masseurs and physios as well.

India breaks Australia’s Gabba streak

India was set a target of 328 in the fourth innings to win the match. The visitors batted almost the entire day and kept pushing towards a win and eventually it happened. The Australian team lost their first match in Gabba in 32 years, with their previous loss at the venue coming in November 1988. With this win, India also went to the top of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21, while the Aussies slipped to third place.
