Ravi Shastri’s chances of becoming the next Indian head coach are increasing with each passing day. As we move closer to June 10th, the scheduled date for the announcement, Shastri seems to be the most likely one to grab the cherry.

Before Ravi Shastri pitched in his application, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag and Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody were the firm favourites. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprised of legends in the name of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will host the interviews at 1 pm India time on Monday, July 10th.

The interviews were previously scheduled to kick off at 12.30 pm, but Sachin Tendulkar has requested it to start from 8.30 am London time because of his presence in London.

The BCCI has made it clear to the CAC that the coach should be someone who has a smooth relationship with the captain and the rest of team. The team should not have any kind of trouble dealing with the new head coach. There is no denying the fact that Shastri and Virat Kohli shared a strong bond and that might just work in favour of the 55-year-old active commentator.

Other options:

However, Virender Sehwag remains a strong challenge for Shastri as he was asked by BCCI members to chip in with his resume. Sehwag’s attacking approach to the game I something which the CAC prefers while they announced earlier that they are hunting for someone who will win matches for the team.

It will be a big surprise if Ravi Shastri is not selected for the position. Sunday will see the short listing of the candidates and they will be informed about their timings for the interview on Monday.

Kumble’s term as the Indian coach ended right after the Champions Trophy as the team made their way to the Caribbean. Kumble resigned with dignity following complications with skipper Virat Kohli which came into prominence during the Champions Trophy itself.
