Team India’s build-up for the World Cup 2019 has been brilliant thus far. With victories in Australia and New Zealand, the team seems to be in a very good space at the moment. India registered its first-ever bilateral ODI series win in the Kangaroo nation and won an ODI series after 10 years in the neighbouring New Zealand.

There are just five more ODI games left before the quadrennial tournament gets underway in England and Wales. The players are competing extremely hard for the World Cup spots and most of them pick themselves automatically. Head coach Ravi Shastri after the series win against the Kiwis shared his opinion on whether the team has found the right combinations for the mega-tournament.

Most of the players pick themselves

Shastri hinted that the team looks pretty much settled for the showpiece event. He said that most of the players pick themselves. However, he expressed concerns on one or two spots and wants the players to not lose form ahead of the World Cup. Champions of the 2011 edition, Team India enters the tournament as one of the favourites given the kind of cricket they’ve been playing of late.

“I would think so. There will be still one or two places you will look at. In general, the team more or less picks itself. What you want is people not to lose their form with five games left before the World Cup. You, in fact, should pick every opportunity you get and make the most of it. And that is why I like the way Rayudu played today.

“This was the best game of the five matches, because from 18 for 4 to win the game, the way we did and Rayudu in particular. He batted like a millionaire in the last game,” said Shastri in conversation in the Star Sports broadcaster of the show. India will play three T20Is against New Zealand before they take Australia on in the home series.
