Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan revealed his views on Ravichandran Ashwin prior to the upcoming series between India and Sri Lanka. Lauding the Indian off-spinner, Muralitharan praised him for his skills and stated that he has grown into a smart and a talented bowler. The duo has also worked together during their stint at Chennai Super Kings.

Muralitharan believes that the IPL has been clinical in moulding Ashwin into what he is today- the numero uno Test bowler in the world. The Sri Lankan offie also credited former Indian captain MSD for helping the Tamil Nadu spinner come into the fray. Combined with IPL and Dhoni’s guidance, Muralitharan believes Ashwin is currently in the epitome of his career.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Tamil Nadu Premiere League (TNPL), where the 45-year-old Lankan is acting as a mentor for the VB Thiruvallur Veerans franchise, said, “I have seen Ashwin since my Chennai Super Kings days. He always had the talent. Now, he is getting better with experience. In a way, IPL helped him gain experience and then Dhoni guided him in the right way. Dhoni believed in Ashwin and brought him to the Indian side. And Ashwin is also a smart cricketer. He is probably bowling his best at the moment.”

Muralitharan keen to be a part of CSK

Meanwhile, the BCCI announced the return of Chennai Super Kings to the IPL. Muralitharan, who has earlier been associated with the franchise seemed overwhelmed by their return and expressed his views to work for them if given an opportunity.

Rajasthan Royals will also make a return to the cash-filled league. Both the Rajasthan and Chennai franchisees were suffering a two-year suspension imposed by the Supreme Court appointed Lodha committee on disciplinary grounds.

The committee had earlier also banned former Super Kings team official Gurunath Meiyappan and Royals co-owner Raj Kundra for life from any involvement in cricket.
