One of India’s finest spinners Ravichandran Ashwin seems willing to embrace the idea of playing county cricket to gain more exposure. The off-spinner revealed that he would have played the county last season if not for the national commitments. Ashwin is also critical of the tight schedule that poses Indian cricketers with limitations, unlike foreign players who gain a lot more experience by playing in T20 leagues across the world. Ashwin first came into the fray through IPL, and since then has developed into a smart and talented bowler.

The off-spinner first came into the fray through the IPL, and since then has developed into a smart and talented bowler. Indian Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara had earlier said that country cricket has helped him evolve as a batter. Even Virat Kohli has expressed interest in playing county cricket. Thus it seems plausible that the fans might get to see their Indian stars participating in the county championship in England.

Bowling evolution

Ashwin also talked about his new bowling style that he adopted during the recently concluded West Indies series. This was his tenth evolution of his bowling action. The 30-year-old likes keeping his bowling style flexible in order to let himself adjust to the demands of the game better.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle about playing county cricket, the offie said, “I don’t know how much of a window we have, to go and play there. There are limitations that we can’t play T20 cricket abroad. When we have a break, it is mostly T20 time there.”

“Most of the countries allow their players to play the various T20 leagues and they become richer with experience. You saw how well Australia and England adapted when they came here. I am sure it’s the direction it’s going to go,” he added.

Ashwin is set to feature in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for the Dindigul Dragons franchise. However, he is speculated to miss a majority of the tournament due to his national commitments.
