Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently in England where he is plying his trade in the ongoing County Championships. Playing for Worcestershire in the Division Two of the County tournament, Ashwin is making steady progress for his side. He has been very impressive in the four matches that he has played thus far in the season.
Recently, he had made the headlines by being elected as the Player of the Week in one of the fan polls conducted by the official handle of the County cricket on the micro blogging site Twitter. He had bagged the honor following his five wicket haul in the Division Two fixture against Gloucestershire. Now, in the ongoing match against team Durham, Ravichandran Ashwin is in action again.
The premier Indian Test bowler bowled a beauty of a delivery to get rid of Durham skipper Paul Collingwood in the match. The veteran English batsman looked set on 27 when Ashwin bowled to him in the 33rd over. On the fifth delivery of the over, Ashwin bowled a classical off spinner that turned out to be a dream delivery for any off break bowler. The ball pitched in good length area and turned viciously towards the batsman.
Collingwood had least expected the ball to be turning square and hence had opted to leave the delivery pass by. However, the ball spun sharply to crash into the woodwork. Earlier in the game, Ravichandran Ashwin had top scored for Worcs in the first innings. He scored his maiden fifty in County cricket.
He hit a brilliant 82 that came off 130 deliveries with 7 fours to his name. His efforts helped Worcestershire score 335/10 in the first innings. Durham, in their response, have been hit hard by the Worcs bowlers. They ended day 2 with 142/5 to their credit. They still trail by 193 runs.
